Abstract

The oxidation of two yohimbane alkaloids(reserpineand rescinnamine) by nitric acid has been studied [1,2]and
mechanisms arenowproposedfortheoxidationproducts.Theoxidationpatternofthesealkaloidsappeartobethesame
invariousorganicsolventsandtheratemaybeinfluenceddependinguponthesolventcharacteristics,i.e.dielectriccon-
stant, dissociation constant and viscosityof the medium in therange studied.
